Impeaching a witness can be one of the most challenging parts of your case, and a skill that needs continual refinement.

From the developers of the Intensive Trial Advocacy Workshop (ITAW), the Advanced Impeachment Techniques program will help you prepare for this task, expertly analyze testimony and successfully strategize for impeachment.

Successful impeachment can make a major impact to your case. Our trained, experienced faculty of experienced judges and lawyers, will give you individualized feedback and strategies to hone these skills.  You will get to practice your skills and learn step-by-step approaches as we cover key topics throughout the day

Foundations for Successful Impeachment

You will learn the essential concepts and skills required to conduct an effective impeachment, including:

The three C’s of impeachment strategy and when to use them

How to impeach the witness, the evidence, or both

Establishing the theme and theory of your impeachment

Persuasion skills that matter

Impeachment on previous testimony

Impeaching prior inconsistent testimony from an examination for discovery

Small Group Skills Sessions: Advanced Impeachment Techniques

In small groups facilitated by expert faculty, you will practice the impeachment techniques you’ve learned while receiving guidance on the underpinnings of a successful impeachment strategy. Our faculty will provide you with individualized feedback which will allow you to rapidly improve your skills.

These learn-by-doing practice sessions will use a sample case file designed specifically for the program, and will include discussion on:

Planning your impeachment: developing a winning strategy

Creating a formula for using a discovery transcript in your impeachment

Effectively using emphasis and modulation

Practical tips and strategies on how to make your cross examination more persuasive

Impeaching Prior Written Statements

Additionally, our faculty will cover the specific skills you need to impeach via prior written statements. This is especially important in today’s electronic age, with the increasing reliance upon email and social media forums (which provide excellent fodder for inconsistent statements).
