Legal Educator & Consultant
A hearing is often a stressful and complicated process for all parties involved, and an effective adjudicator can ease this experience with how they communicate every step of the way.
To successfully do this, effective communication skills are essential. Often overlooked, failure to control your verbal and non-verbal messages can impede the hearing – and ultimately your reputation.
Through a mix of lectures, video scenarios, exercises and small group work, you will learn to apply communication principles to challenges in the hearing room. Taking cue from key principles used in theatre, you will have an opportunity to practice and evaluate both your verbal and non-verbal communication skills and methods.
What You’ll Learn
Practicing non-verbal communication: tone, intention and body language
Developing and maintaining an effective voice: control, awareness, projection
Understanding effective verbal communication: literacy challenges, avoiding jargon, metaphors, etc.
