The metaverse describes the interaction of people on decentralized platforms hosted on the Internet, including entire businesses. You can interact and transact with others in this virtual world. The transactions taking place on these platforms range from buying and selling physical goods and non-fungible tokens, to providing advisory services.
Like the Internet and social media before it, the metaverse has created a wide range of novel legal questions and issues, related to jurisdiction, tax, securities, contracts, intellectual property, anti-money laundering, cybercrime and professional ethics.
In February 2022, Aaron Grinhaus, founder of Grinhaus Law in Toronto, opened a virtual law office in “Decentraland”, a platform in the metaverse that he uses to connect with and serve clients.
