Drafting a will that can stand up to challenges is the cornerstone of a successful estates practice.
Over two half-days, this intensive, learn-by-doing program will provide a unique opportunity to hone your drafting skills while receiving feedback from expert faculty.
A well-drafted will must do more than reflect a client’s instructions; it must anticipate potential issues and address them clearly and effectively. Developing this skill requires practice and careful consideration of the client’s circumstances.
OsgoodePD’s Intensive Will Drafting Workshop will give you the practical tools, feedback and experience to strengthen your drafting skills and approach complex scenarios with greater confidence.
Through sample fact scenarios, focused lectures and small-group sessions, you will apply drafting principles, test your approach and refine your skills with feedback from experienced faculty.
Please Note
Hands-On Work
You must complete a pre-program introductory webinar and a drafting assignment between the two half-day sessions. You will be asked to draw on your own templates and precedents, as well as the learnings from the first half-day session, when completing the assignment.
Attendance Requirements
Given the hands-on format, live online attendance is required for both half-day sessions. The program will not be recorded.
What You’ll Learn
Avoid common drafting errors
Draft and adapt basic administrative and preamble clauses to different fact situations
Identify the key components of a Simple Will and when it is appropriate to use
Modify standard clauses to address client needs in a range of fact scenarios
Address more complex circumstances, including family cottages and second marriages
Determine when multiple wills are appropriate and draft them effectively
