AI and other data-driven technologies are creating new opportunities while raising important questions about the governance, stewardship, and use of Indigenous data. Gain practical insights into how Indigenous approaches to data governance – including OCAP® Principles (ownership, control, access, and possession of data) – interact with evolving federal initiatives aimed at supporting Indigenous data sovereignty. Further considerations for organizations working with Indigenous communities and data, including legislative reforms, ethical governance frameworks to limit bias in AI tool roll-out, and public health lessons learned during the COVID-19 pandemic will also be addressed.

The landscape of foreign interference in Canada now encompasses a broad range of activities, from mis- and disinformation campaigns to cyber-enabled espionage. This session will examine current and emerging trends, the tactics and tools used by foreign actors, and the legal and policy responses available to counter these threats.
