Explore Your Options with Flexible, Non-Degree Study Through Single Course Enrollment
By applying for Single Course Enrollment at OsgoodePD, you’re applying for non-degree status. This flexible option allows you to take up to 12 credits over one academic year (three terms) without committing to a full degree program.
You don’t apply for a specific course. Instead, once accepted, you’ll be able to register for eligible courses based on your professional background. This approach gives you flexibility and faster access to the course registration system, which is especially helpful if course availability/schedules changes or you’re still exploring your options.
Course Eligibility
As a single course enrollment student, the courses you available to you depend on whether you’re an NCA Candidate, Canadian Lawyer (including members of a Canadian Bar society) or a non-legal professional:
NCA Candidates
You’ll have access to courses that are accredited by the National Committee on Accreditation (NCA). We run about 50 NCA-accredited courses per year, in a variety of formats (online/in-person) and schedules (evening, daytime, weekly, intensive). You can view the full list of courses that satisfy NCA requirements, along with their typical timing
Canadian Lawyers (Including Lawyer members of a Canadian Bar society)
You’ll have access to courses from most of our Professional LLM specializations (excluding courses from the LLM in Criminal & Procedure Law, the LLM in Taxation Law and the LLM in Canadian Common Law).
Non-Legal Professionals
All non-legal professionals are required to take the prep course, Introduction to Graduate Legal Studies as part of their LLM studies. We strongly encourage you to take this course as a non-degree student before you begin an LLM program.
Note: This course is ONLY offered in the Fall and Summer terms.
After you’ve completed Introduction to Graduate Legal Studies, you could apply to take additional (up to 9 credits) of courses through SCE – and at that time you’ll have access to courses from most of our Professional LLM specializations (excluding courses from the LLM in Criminal & Procedure Law, the LLM in Taxation Law and the LLM in Canadian Common Law).
Application Requirements
All applicants must submit the following via our Application Portal:
Completed online application and non-refundable $75 fee

Application Timelines
We accept applications year-round, and courses run on a three-term academic schedule:
Applications Open | Priority Deadline | Final Deadline | |
---|---|---|---|
Fall | May 1 | June 15 | August 31 |
Winter | September 1 | October 15 | December 31 |
Summer | January 1 | February 15 | April 30 |
Note: To ensure full access to courses in a given term, your application must be complete (including all documents and payment) by the deadline. Submitting an incomplete application does not guarantee timely access to registration.
If you apply after the priority deadline, you may have access to fewer courses, or your registration access may start in the next term, depending on how late your application is submitted and completed.
Tuition and Fees
The application fee is $75. Tuition fees are charged on a per course basis – after you’ve been enrolled in a course:
Supplmentary Fees
In addition to tuition, York University students are charged supplementary fees, which vary each term.
To find the current amounts, visit the Student Financial Services website and select the relevant term, then choose “Osgoode – Professional LLM” Fees are listed by full- vs. part-time status and by domestic vs. international student status. A detailed breakdown appears further down the page.
Note: Tuition amounts listed are for Professional LLM students and do not apply to SCE students. However, the supplementary fees shown do apply.
SCE students are considered to be part-time students. Supplementary fees are based on the total number of credits taken in a given term. For example, the part-time rate applies to 6 credits. If you’re enrolled in 3 credits, you’ll pay half that amount; if you’re enrolled in 12 credits, you’ll pay double.
Other Fees
Registration Fee: Each term the Faculty of Graduate Studies levies a $15.00 (non-refundable) registration fee.
