Designed for lawyers, healthcare professionals, clinicians, administrators, patient advocates and professionals across diverse practice settings – including those serving vulnerable or marginalized communities – the program equips participants with the legal knowledge, practical skills and ethical frameworks needed to navigate complex real-world situations.

Across five full-day modules, expert faculty – including leading lawyers, clinicians, ethicists, regulators and community advocates – guide participants through Ontario’s legal landscape, emerging case law and the everyday challenges involved in evaluating capacity, obtaining consent and supporting incapable individuals.

Certificate Requirements

You will receive an Osgoode Certificate upon completion of this program as follows:

  • Attend Module 1, Module 2 morning, Module 4 afternoon & Module 5 (live online or via recorded archive);
  • Attend afternoon of Module 2 (May 26th) live online;
  • Attend morning of Module 4 (June 9th) live online; and
  • Successfully complete an online post-program assessment AND complete a self-declaration by July 17, 2026;

NOTE:

The afternoon of Module 2 (May 26th) and the morning of Module 4 (June 9th) MUST be done live online.

It is strongly encouraged that you attend Module 1 live online. Module 1 will include an overview of the course and introduce key legislation that will be relied on throughout the Certificate. If that is not possible please ensure you review the recording (usually available 2-3 days after the live session) BEFORE Module 2 or you may find it difficult to follow along.
