Tuition and Fees

For students starting in the Fall 2023 or Winter 2024 term

The program fee is paid in installments:

• Full-time students pay in three installments over three active terms.
• Part-time students pay in six installments over six active terms.

Students who complete the program in fewer than the above number of active terms will have their final installment(s) added at the end of their program. Students who require more than the above number of terms will be subject to additional term fees.

In addition to the tuition fee, York University students are charged supplementary fees. Supplementary fee amounts change every term. To find supplementary fee information for your program, visit the Student Financial Services website. Under the relevant term, choose “Osgoode – Professional LLM”.  The supplementary fees for students registered as full- vs. part-time, and domestic vs. international, are listed. Further down the page, a breakdown of the supplementary fees can be found.

Full-time LLM students are required to pay a non-refundable enrollment deposit of $1,000 in order to accept the offer of admission and secure their place in the program.

Your enrollment deposit is credited toward your first term’s tuition. If you do not start the program, or if you withdraw in your first term, your enrollment deposit will not be refunded. You may request a refund in the following two circumstances: 

• You are an international student and have received two study permit (visa) refusals for the program (proof required).  In other words, if you receive a permit refusal you must either: 
  • appeal the refusal decision unsuccessfully or  
  • reapply and be refused a second time. 

• You can provide evidence of extraordinary personal circumstances (for example, the death of an immediate family member) which would prevent you from starting the program in this intake or the next intake. 

Refunds of enrollment deposits are discretionary and are made by the Director, Professional Graduate & International Programs. Decisions are not subject to review or appeal.

Under no circumstances will an enrollment deposit be refunded: 

• After the start date on your offer letter 
• On the basis of your not meeting the requirements for a deferral  

• If your offer is rescinded because you have not met conditions, such as providing a language test 
• If you have been granted a deferral

Registration Fee: Each term the Faculty of Graduate Studies levies a $15.00 (non-refundable) registration fee.

International Students’ Health Insurance: The University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) is mandatory for all international students. This does not apply to domestic students. For more information, visit the York International website.

Domestic Students’ Health Insurance: The York University Graduate Students’ Association (YUGSA) health plan is mandatory for all full-time students without comparable coverage and is optional for those registered as part-time students.

Tuition for Single Course Enrollment is charged based on the credit weight of the course(s) in which you are enrolled.

Note that this information is aimed at students in the Professional LLM program, and so the tuition information listed here does not apply to SCE students; only the supplementary fee information is relevant.

SCE students are typically registered as part-time. However, supplementary fees for SCE students are calculated based on the total credit weight of the courses in which you’re enrolled. To calculate your fees, note that the part-time supplementary fee amount is correct only if you are enrolled in 6 total credits for the given term. If you are enrolled in 12 total SCE credits that term, you will pay double that amount; if you are enrolled in 3 total credits that term, you will pay half that amount, etc.

Once you have accepted your offer of admission you will be registered in course(s) and fees will be applied to your student account. Course withdrawals are subject to the non-degree students refund policy.  In order to obtain a refund, you must send a completed withdrawal form to your course’s program assistant on or before the deadline below:

• Full Refund: 10 Business days before start of course or earlier.
• 40% Refund: Before the second day of course.
• No Refund: Second day of course or later.
