Investigators face daunting challenges in complying with the Charter in their “real” work world. They often receive conflicting legal advice on interpretation and Charter compliant procedure.

Infringement can not only result in lost cases, but can also lead to civil lawsuits, actions for Human Rights violations, internal disciplinary action and even lost jobs. Criminals may escape justice and victims may not receive justice.

This OsgoodePD program will arm you with practical information to meet Charter challenges you are most likely to face in your work as an investigator. You will learn to anticipate when the Charter might be engaged and how to proceed lawfully.

Registration includes 120-day unlimited, online access to the recorded program.

What You’ll Learn

Delivered by a very experienced faculty of Crowns, defence lawyers, police and judges from across Canada, you will get practical, straightforward guidance in key Charter areas including:

Deep dive into investigation and detention

Arrest and post-arrest; Charter interests engaged and proper procedures

How to conduct a post-arrest interview in a Charter compliant manner

Detained evidence and Charter protections
