It is critical that you have a clear understanding of the laws that govern you and the best practices that should guide your actions.
As an educator or adviser working within or with a private or independent school, you know that many of the laws applicable to publicly funded educational institutions don’t apply to you, and yet, you face many of the same challenges, plus more.
Developed in consultation with private & independent school operators/owners/associations as well as lawyers representing private & independent schools, this comprehensive day will look at the usual school law issues from this different perspective, while also addressing those issues unique to private and independent schools.
What you’ll learn
Human rights and accommodations: school obligations
Privacy issues around student health including consents and the sharing of information
Communicating with parents and the public when there is an emergency/crisis at the school
Child protection issues in the school: the role of educators
Current issues around student vaccinations: what are the exemptions and when do they apply?
Student discipline: what is the process?
